The takes place on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. The event is on the leading edge at 探花社区 in bringing people together across campuses and disciplines to discuss methodologies and create new dialogues that can lead to intercampus collaborations.
Barbara Oakley, Ph.D., joins the event as keynote speaker. As a lifelong adventurer, Oakley rose from the ranks of Private to Captain in the U.S. Army, during which she was recognized as a Distinguished Military Scholar. She worked as a communications expert at the South Pole Station in Antarctica and has served as a Russian translator on board Soviet trawlers on the Bering Sea. Dr. Oakley is an elected Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
Oakley, a Professor of Engineering at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan; the Ramón y Cajal Distinguished Scholar of Global Digital Learning at McMaster University; and Coursera’s inaugural “Innovation Instructor,” will share insight into her work on the complex relationship between neuroscience and social behavior. Oakley has been published in outlets such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times and has won numerous teaching awards.
Since inception in 2013, the Innovation in Pedagogy and Technology Symposium has grown and now averages attendance of 500 探花社区 administrators, faculty and staff. The event, co-hosted by 探花社区 Online and 探花社区 Information Technology, focuses on innovations in pedagogy and instructional design, leadership and strategy in online education and technology.
The event is free and open to NU administrators, faculty and staff.
